Definition

Doxastic engagement

Doxastic engagement occurs when a person accepts the relevant proposition as true and allows that belief to shape perception, motivation, practice, or action.

The distinction it protects

Using an expression and believing it are not the same act.

Doxastic engagement includes factual assent. It should not be assumed merely because someone uses theological, religious, narrative, or symbolic language.

In the path

Believe honestly, without making belief a condition of belonging.

Fidence Path permits doxastic engagement but does not require a single metaphysical belief from every participant.
