Non-doxastic engagement
Non-doxastic engagement is the honest use of language, narrative, symbolism, or practice for its ethical and psychological effects without factual assent to the proposition involved.
The distinction it protects
Non-doxastic does not mean deceptive or merely theatrical.
The person does not pretend to believe. The engagement is sincere because its intended function and the absence of factual assent remain honest.
